Guinness World Records Hottest Chilli: Carolina Reaper!

What do you think is the hottest pepper in the world?

The winner of the Guinness World Records is the Carolina Reaper HP22B with 2,200,000 on the Scoville scale.

As you surely know, chillies are an extremely healthy food, rich in vitamins and antioxidants that help prolong youth. They are also great for combatting colds and in certain cases have fat-burning properties.

What makes chillies so spicy?

The source of the spiciness is a compound called Capsaicin (one of the most stable alkaloids in the world; it’s highly resistant to high temperatures and aging).

The capsaicin in chilli peppers is so strong that it’s able to seep through latex gloves and if blended up, the vapors could badly burn you.

As a comparison, let’s take the Calabrian chilli that just barely reaches 25,000 SHU, while the Carolina Reaper, winner of the Guinness World Record, has an average score of 2,200,000 SHU.

The former winner of the Guinness World Record was the Trinidad Moruga scorpion with an average of 2,000,231 SHU.

Eat just a bite and it doesn’t seem terribly strong, but then it begins to burn more and more...

When there are elevated levels of Capsaicin, certain precautions need to be taken. Be careful not to touch your eyes without first washing your hands. One single chilli is enough to spice up dishes for an entire family for a week.

There has never been a chilli this hot in the history of mankind. If you want more information on this topic, you can visit our article on the Carolina Reaper: Carolina Reaper HP22B, where we have gone into depth on its history.

The Italian team from is trying to cross the Carolina Reaper to create an even hotter chilli. If all goes well, we can present our product in October.

In my opinion, with just a little of the Carolina Reaper chilli, you are set for about two weeks, and I eat a lot of chillies…
