[15,000 SHU][C. Annuum] A variety well-loved by Italian for it's pleasant, mild flavor. Often used to flavor dishes for family dinners and suited for people who don't like extreme heat.
It's mostly grown in Calabria in the south of Italy and in the province of Cosenza. A nursery recently discovered it and since then it's been spreading like wildfire in the province of Rome, too.
It is also known as Devil's Nose.
The plant is nice to look at, with a tree-like shape with many productive branches. Its average height is about 70 Cm, the leaves are dark green and foliage quite thick.
The fruit is dense and meaty, they can be cut into slices to decorate and flavor dishes or they can be stuffed with meat and spices.
Creativity is very important for this variety.
The color changes from dark green to red at maturation. At the beginning, they grow upwards and then once the weight and size increase start to turn downward, another sign that they are maturing.
Fun fact: in the past, it was renamed "Trottolino amoroso" in honor of the chorus of the smash hit "Vattene Amore" that in 1990 was all over the radio, sung by Mietta and Amedeo Minghi.
